New chapel foundation poured with student prayers, poems and good wishes

The new 31st Street chapel's construction is moving along quite rapidly. Last week its concrete foundation was poured, and all but a 2' x 2' area was covered. This small area, which will be directly below the chapel's altar, was left open for a special offering. On Saturday, Oct. 22, a brief service was conducted at the construction site to include prayers written by faculty and students in the lower and middle schools. These prayers, written last April and presented at the chapel's groundbreaking ceremony, were deposited into the open space below the altar. Following Saturday's service, the construction crew mixed and poured concrete to seal the school community's prayers, hymns, poems, and good wishes into the chapel's permanent foundation.

Saturday's service was led by the school's clergy, Mrs. Nazro, the Middle School student council, and the sixth grade leadership group. It was attended by Lynn Fowler, Executive Director of the Cain Foundation, whose generous grant is making the new chapel, playscape, and field upgrades possible. This gift was made in honor of Parker McGill and in memory of Frank W. McGill, both former St. Andrew's students.
