Sixth Graders "Defy" Gravity!
A culminating event after the motion and forces unit in sixth grade science is the dropping of eggs from the fifth story Seton parking garage and attempting to have them survive the impact un-cracked. Each sixth grader designed a package for their egg that created minimal force on impact when it hit the ground. This was accomplished by using air resistance to slow the egg with a parachute, by effective packaging around the egg, or the use of both. Over 75% of the eggs survived un-cracked, but alas, a few did meet a gooey fate!
