She connects the real-world to the classroom in a way that makes learning relevant and inspires students to lead productive, responsible lives, not only for themselves, but also for their community.”
Austin, Texas — Middle School Science Teacher, Emma DeVine, has been honored as an Educator of the Year by the Discovery Education Awards. The Discovery Education Awards honor districts, schools, and educators who accelerate achievement among students by inspiring curiosity and connecting learning to the world beyond the classroom.

Grounded in a philosophy of creating real-world connections, Emma DeVine encourages students to explore scientific concepts through hands-on, inquiry-based experiments and collaborative discussions using the Harkness method. By integrating storytelling into lessons, they highlight the contributions of unsung scientists, ensuring diverse perspectives are celebrated and inspiring students to see themselves as part of the scientific community.

“At St. Andrews Episcopal School, we strive to help young people achieve their potential in all aspects of life. Emma DeVine is an educator helping students do just that.
