St. Andrew's recently hosted the
Greater Austin Suzuki Institute on the Upper School Campus. Suzuki institutes offer small and large group classes for school-aged children, as well as certification and teacher training for Suzuki teachers. This year's institute included three St. Andrew’s students (Charlotte Guidi ‘30, Sophia Tyson ‘30, and incoming 10th grader, Kavya Srinivasan '22). St. Andrew's Lower and Middle School Orchestra Director, Rachel Alvarado, taught violin masterclasses and group classes at the institute, alongside 18 other celebrated faculty from across the nation, for students from Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas, Colorado, Louisiana, Michigan, New York, California, Oregon, Virginia, and as far away as Peru. US Fine Arts Department Chair, Dr. David Guidi, says of the institute: “Suzuki institutes play a vital role in community building and helping to preserve a teaching method that seeks to nurture the soul and build character, through music. St. Andrew's is incredibly supportive of the fine arts, and opening our doors to such talented teachers and students puts our name on the the national and international stage as supporters of Suzuki education and helps to spread the word about our wonderful facilities and the exciting things happening here."
