Academic Philosophy

St. Andrew’s thrives on the curiosity, enthusiasm, and diversity of all our students.
We equip students to engage in educational opportunities beyond St. Andrew’s with confidence and success by providing engaging instruction that results in excellent acquisition of knowledge and skills while nurturing social, emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being. We have high expectations of each student and are committed to developing students, in accordance with our mission, who are “exemplary scholars, artists, athletes and servants in a loving Episcopal community who are curious, courageous and compassionate global citizens” within our four pillar—scholar, artist, athlete and servant—framework.

We believe that a combination of both traditional and progressive approaches works best, assuring a balance of solid content and skills mastery coupled with the ability to apply lessons learned, that students should be equally adept at working independently and in collaborative groups, that healthy competition and effective collaboration are both of value, and that students’ abilities to connect learning from disparate disciplines and each of our four pillars is crucial for their future success.

For a description of expected outcomes of a St. Andrew’s education, please see our Portrait of a St. Andrew’s Graduate to learn more about our commitment to educating scholars, artists, athletes and servants who are joyful, ethical, resilient servant leaders ready to successfully embark on their very bright futures.
